Two of this distributor’s biggest customers had quietly changed their supplier requirements over the summer. Structured invoice receipt only. Anything else would sit unprocessed. That was the conversation that moved e-invoicing from a compliance line item on next year’s plan to something the finance director wanted sorted in the current quarter. The UAE-based wholesale business has now implemented an AI-enabled UAE e-invoice solution with Accely.
Worth noting the FTA timeline was never really the driver here. It was the commercial pressure arriving first, which is increasingly how this plays out for suppliers in the region. The mandate sets the floor. Customers set the actual deadline.
Accely’s first job was sorting out the invoice formats. This distributor issues several variations depending on whether goods ship from its own warehouse or direct from a supplier, and on what payment terms the customer sits on. Two of those variations were carrying fields the Peppol framework has no slot for, which had to be resolved before anything could be mapped properly.
Credit notes were the harder problem. Wholesale throws off a lot of them and they frequently reference invoices raised weeks earlier. If the system cannot link a credit back to its original invoice, the submission gets rejected and somebody in accounts spends an afternoon working out why. Accely spent most of the configuration effort on that linkage.
Validation now happens before submission instead of after rejection. Errors appear while the document is still editable, which sounds minor until you consider what the alternative costs in rework time.
Live since last month. Rejections have dropped off and the billing team has stopped rebuilding submissions retrospectively.
Accely came in as an AI-powered Implementation partner with UAE e-invoicing deployments already behind it. On a project with a hard external deadline, the distributor was not interested in being somebody’s first attempt.
