Energy technology companies sit in an awkward spot when it comes to ERP. The business has industrial complexity, project-based revenue, and asset-heavy operations, but it also moves fast enough that a three-year customisation-heavy build is the wrong answer. A UAE-based energy technology company worked through that trade-off and landed on RISE with SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud with Accely as the implementation partner.

The reasoning came down to control versus overhead. Public cloud was too restrictive for the process variations this business genuinely needs. On-premise meant owning infrastructure they had no interest in owning. RISE with SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud gives them room to extend where the business requires it, without taking on the hardware, patching, and capacity planning that comes with running it themselves.

Accely’s scoping work focused first on project systems. A meaningful portion of this client’s revenue comes through engineering projects with milestone billing, long execution cycles, and cost tracking that has to hold up against contract terms. Getting that right shapes everything downstream in finance.

Asset management was the second priority. Field equipment deployed across client sites, maintenance obligations attached to service contracts, and spares planning that had been running on informed guesswork rather than data.

The migration approach is a brownfield conversion rather than a fresh build. That decision was made deliberately after reviewing the existing system. Enough of the current configuration reflects real business logic that rebuilding it from scratch would have meant relearning things the organisation already knows.

Data cleanup is running in parallel with configuration. Master data across materials, customers, and equipment carries the usual accumulated inconsistencies.

The client selected an AI-powered SAP consulting company with regional delivery capability and RISE experience specifically. For a first cloud migration of this scale, working with a SAP implementation partner that has run brownfield conversions before was worth more to them than a lower quoted price.
