Regulatory reporting in a conglomerate is not a single compliance task. It is a coordination problem across multiple entities, each generating transactions that need to be reported accurately, on time, and in formats that satisfy different regulatory bodies. When the Federal Tax Authority and other UAE regulatory requirements tightened their expectations around document and reporting compliance, a UAE-based conglomerate group looked at their current approach and concluded it was not going to hold at scale. They engaged Accely for SAP DRC (Document and Reporting Compliance) implementation across the group.
SAP DRC is the compliance layer within the SAP landscape that handles the generation, validation, and submission of regulatory documents. For a conglomerate with entities across trading, real estate, and services, the number of document types in scope is significant. VAT returns, e-invoices, withholding tax reports, customs documentation, each one has its own format requirements and submission timelines. The SAP DRC (Document and Reporting Compliance) consolidates all of that into a single managed compliance framework within the SAP landscape.
Accely’s scoping work started with a full inventory of the group’s current compliance document types across all entities. That inventory produced some findings that the group’s finance leadership had not fully anticipated. Several document types that were being handled through manual processes outside SAP were identified as candidates for bringing inside the DRC framework. Others had been partially automated but in ways that created reconciliation problems at the group level.
The implementation is structured in two phases. The first covers the highest-volume and highest-risk document types: VAT-related documents and e-invoice output across the group’s primary trading entities. The second phase brings in the remaining entity types and the lower-volume compliance documents that are currently handled manually.
Phase one is now underway. The configuration work is running in parallel with a data quality exercise, because clean master data is a prerequisite for reliable document output. Getting that right before go-live rather than fixing it after is where a significant portion of the early effort is concentrated.
