UAE’s Education Institution Begins SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Transformation Journey

Schools and education groups do not always get the same attention as commercial enterprises when it comes to ERP modernisation. But the operational complexity is real. Finance, procurement, HR, vendor management, facilities, all of it needs to work, and in a multi-school environment it needs to work consistently across entities that often developed their own ways of doing things over years. A UAE-based primary and secondary education group recently decided the systems holding everything together were not fit for where the organisation is going, and signed on with Accely for a SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud Licenses & Implementation engagement.

The appeal of the public cloud model for an education group is partly about what you get out of the box and partly about what you do not have to manage yourself. Continuous updates, embedded AI capabilities that arrive with each release, no infrastructure overhead. For an organisation that does not have a large internal IT team, this means the platform keeps improving without the group having to plan and fund major upgrade cycles every few years.

Accely’s scoping work identified three priority areas for the initial rollout: finance and procurement, which needed to be standardised across all schools in the group; HR and payroll, which had been managed through disconnected systems for different employee categories; and vendor management, where the absence of a central view had created both efficiency and compliance gaps. The public cloud’s standardised process framework was a better fit here than a heavily customised private cloud build would have been.

The education sector has specific financial reporting requirements, particularly around government funding, grant management, and fee structures that vary by programme. Getting those requirements mapped into the SAP configuration before go-live, rather than discovering them during testing, was a deliberate focus of the early project phases.

The implementation is now underway. Finance and procurement go live first. HR follows in the second wave. The sequencing was a deliberate call, not a default, and the timeline was built around the school year rather than around what would be convenient for the implementation team.

Accely’s standing as an AI-powered SAP consulting company with experience across education and public sector clients in the region was a factor the group’s leadership referenced directly in their selection decision. For an institution moving to cloud ERP for the first time, working with a SAP global partner company that has done this before in similar environments removes a layer of risk that first-time cloud migrations carry almost by default.
